It was the cheapest in the area providing A/C. Local to pretty much all of Big Bend activities. The menu has changed from what's on line. Room was spacious and clean. Everyone is friendly. If you want coffee before 7:30 A M during the summer its at the La Pasado Milagro up the road in Ghost Town. The food is okay. For the money I highly recommend it.
Expectation determines satisfaction (at least in a significant way). If you expect this hotel to be charming with sturdy walls with heavy doors with electronic keys, soft beds with a few pictures hanging on the wall, and simple amenities like refrigerator, coffee maker, or at least a hair dryer, you would be wrong. However, if you expect this hotel to have a bed (because you prefer not sleeping on the ground) with indoor plumbing (because you prefer not going behind the bush), then bingo, you just won a trip to Hawaii.
Great place to stay if you don't mind "rustic". It was very comfortable, but no amenities like Wi-Fi or even cable TV. Beautiful scenery and the bar & grill had really good food.
Be super careful before you reserve. They won't tell you while you are reserving online that there is a deposit. If you cancel your reservation even only a minute after you made your reservation, you will be charged for a night's rate plus tax, which for us is about 157 dollars. And they wouldn't tell you on the phone call when you cancel it either. They will just silently take your money. Great way to do business with your customer!
I read reviews about this hotel before booking, and I concur with reviews from previous guests including how the owner pre-charged hotel bills to your credit card days before the arrival date (this should stop). But, bed sheets were clean; I packed my own hair dryer; and location is great to visit both Big Bend national and state parks.
So, lower your expectation about this hotel and achieve higher satisfaction from visiting near parks.
Didn't stay here but ate lunch at the diner. Being November, we sat outside for a delightful bowl of all meat chili, a cold beer, and the best pulled pork quesadillas I've ever had. The excellent food and quick service was accompanied by the desert scenery of the eclectic town of Terlingua Texas.
