By far the most unique and accommodating place we stayed at. This was the first night on our 10 day road trip and besides having trouble finding the exact location, it was easy to spot right off the road. It was lit and ready to be used when we arrived. We had no idea that it would be as comfortable as it was!! There was a Queen sized bed on a frame and a little table with chairs, along with a dresser with food and ways to prepare coffee with a french press or tea with several kinds to choose from. Along with the furnishings one would expect in a nice hotel, there was electricity readily available, a fan that worked great and a bathroom/shower area near the parking area that was located right outside the teepee.
I ended up spending the next four nights somewhere else. Here is the email response I received from the owners:
My wife emailed them beforehand letting them know we were taking a road trip for our Honeymoon, and I believe due to that note they provided a big beautiful bottle of wine! We enjoyed that wine that night within the teepee.
"Asking for a refund as she is upset about the situation and didn't feel taken care of by you the owner. At least respond to her email. "
Definitely will recommend this to family and friends who wish to see Big Bend and its surrounding culture.
The Nomad Teepee literally almost ended up being a disaster! The first night I was a bit concerned because the winds were pretty strongly beating on the Teepee and moving one of the support beams a bit back and forth. The next day a big flap supported by a rope came off, which was fixed when I went to eat that evening. When I returned, the flap and rope were off again. Meanwhile, the winds were up between 49 and 50 mph with dust flying everywhere constantly. I went to the adjacent restroom, wondering if the Teepee is structurally safe for these types of winds. I return to the Teepee to see one of the 18 foot beams lying across the entrance of the tent! (see pics)
Staying in the Nomad was so much fun and a great way to experience Terlingua.
Awesome adventure under the stars!
Pretty unique sleeping arrangement. You will have to get on your knees and literally crawl through the entrance. The bathroom is a seperate building, so midlle of the night runs are inconvenient. We couldn't get warm water, but after hiking the South Rim of Big Bend, who cares! Comfy bed, French press, East Street in Terlingua, TX, it could be worse.
A husband and wife own five hotels in Terlingua, one of course being the Nomad Teepee. As I'm staring at the fallen 18'x5" beam, the male owner appears in his truck. I told him I was contemplating leaving because I didn't feel safe. He repeatedly told me that I was looking at the wrong weather forecast, and that the winds would die down. Accuweather had shown that the following day was going to even more windy. He kept on about how I was looking at the wrong forecast.
